Overview

Neon Blur is race track I designed in the gravity defying Rocket Racing game mode in Fortnite. Speed through a cyber city feeling the velocity as the lights of the neon signs race past you. Using this project I was able to study into track design both realistic and arcade to find out the differences and to see where I could combine the two design philosophies.

Project Purpose: University Project

Time Taken: 4 weeks

Design Goals

  • Create a fast paced and intuitive track

  • Utilise the drifting and boosting mechanics of Rocket racing

  • Utilise the pre-made mechanics such as the boost pads

  • Make use of the anti-gravity mechanics

  • Design a fun arcade style track that stays consistently engaging

  • Make use of points of interest to make it easy for the player to know where they are on the track

  • Create a good sense of speed

  • Make use of needle threading to empower the player
